The Text and Academic Authors Association (I’m a member) is sponsoring a podcast on “How Recent Changes in the Textbook Publishing Industry Could Affect Authors”:
Join us on May 11 at 1 p.m. CT for an interview with Michael Lennie, an attorney and literary agent with Lennie Literary & Authors’ Attorney, about how recent and future changes in the textbook publishing industry, including e-book publishing, could affect authors.
The podcast is held on BlogTalkRadio, which frequently allows you to download the mp3 afterward to listen to at your leisure, but I can’t guarantee it.
If you want to know more about the speaker, visit Michael Lennie’s website.
And if you make some of your income writing and creating textbook supplements and ancillaries for college textbooks, you need to be aware of how pending changes can affect our freelance specialty. The big move is toward e-books and more digital content. This can create opportunities for us, but it will also make it easier for profs to create and use their own digital supplementary materials.
The profitability of college textbook publishers is also a major issue. If they adapt well to technology changes and make good profits, they’ll have more money to pay freelance writers.
So the podcast is Tuesday, May 11 at:
11 a.m. Pacific (my time!)
12 noon Mountain
1 p.m. Central
2 p.m. Eastern
