Complete Redesign of the Writing College Textbook Supplements Blog

by John Soares on January 14, 2010

I finally did it.

I started this blog last March, shortly after I released my e-book Writing College Supplements: The Definitive Guide to Winning High-Paying Assignments in the College Textbook Publishing Market. I’m not an expert at blogging, but I did use Wordpress software, which most people consider to be the most sophisticated and versatile, and also the easiest to maximize for search engines.

I won’t bore you with the details, because unless you blog, it really doesn’t mean much to you. Suffice to say I didn’t like the look and feel of the old blog theme I used. I’ve now moved to Thesis, which is easy to customize.

Here are the main changes:

  1. Much cleaner site, with everything easier to find.
  2. The page designed to convince people to buy Writing College Supplements: The Definitive Guide to Winning High-Paying Assignments in the College Textbook Publishing Market now fits with the theme of the blog, and you can reach it by clicking on the appropriate tab above in the header, or by clicking on the book cover in the right column.
  3. I also moved my c.v./resume with a (nearly) complete list of all the supplements and ancillaries I’ve written, along with my other publishing credits, to the blog itself. Access it from the tab above in the header.
  4. I created an About page (see tab in header) that covers the important stuff about my freelance writing and textbook supplement writing career, along with my education and other tidbits.
  5. You can easily subscribe to the blog via an RSS reader or through e-mail. (Highly recommended!)
  6. I organized the categories and made them easier to use, with many main categories becoming subcategories.

I’ll make more changes over the next few weeks, but they shouldn’t be major.

What do you think of the new look? Any suggestions for improvement?
