Memorial Day Hiking: What I Do When I’m Not Writing

I’ve made most of my income writing supplements for college textbooks, but I’m also an outdoors writer and avid hiker. Last weekend I took advantage of a heat wave and clear skies to hike and camp in the mountains west of Mount Shasta in northern California, the area where I live.

You can see a description and seven pictures of the excursion on my Northern California Hiking Trails blog. Here’s a pic I took on Saturday from the Pacific Crest Trail of Mount Shasta, a 14,162-foot-high volcano and the dominant peak of northern California and southern Oregon:
